Where you stay changes your entire park strategy — Early Park Admission, Express Pass, and proximity to Epic Universe all depend on your hotel choice.
Every single Universal Orlando on-site hotel qualifies for Early Park Admission (EPA) — one full hour before the park opens to the general public. You don't need to book a premium room or upgrade to a Signature hotel. Value hotels, mid-range hotels, and luxury hotels all get EPA. At Epic Universe in 2026, that one hour can be the difference between a 10-minute wait and a 90-minute wait on the most popular attractions.
Universal Orlando's on-site hotels fall into three tiers that differ primarily in amenities, theming, and whether they include Express Pass. Here's the honest breakdown of every hotel at every tier.
The Unlimited Express Pass included with Signature hotels covers Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure only. Express access at Epic Universe is sold separately and is NOT included with any hotel stay, regardless of tier.
Italian Coastal Village Luxury
The most luxurious hotel at Universal Orlando — a sprawling recreation of an Italian coastal village with piazzas, fountains, and waterfront dining. Boat service transports guests to CityWalk and the original parks. This is the choice for couples, anniversary trips, and families who want a true resort experience alongside their park days.
Best for: Couples, luxury seekers, anniversary trips, families where resort ambiance matters
Rock-and-Roll Themed · Walk to Parks
The guitar-shaped pool is iconic, the energy is high, and the rock music memorabilia throughout the property creates an atmosphere unlike any other theme park hotel. Hard Rock is consistently popular with families and teens — the proximity to the original parks (a short walk) and the included Express Pass make it a high-value choice despite the premium price point.
Best for: Families with teens, music lovers, anyone who wants walkability to USF/IOA
Pacific Rim Theming · Best Value Signature
Pacific Rim theming, a spectacular lagoon pool, and luau events — Royal Pacific is often the most accessible price point among the Signature hotels. When you factor in the included Unlimited Express Pass value for USF and IOA, Royal Pacific frequently represents the strongest overall value in the Signature tier. A perennial fan favorite.
Best for: Families wanting Signature perks at the most approachable Signature price point
Caribbean-Themed · Signature Collection · No Unlimited Express
Caribbean resort vibes with a large pool area, waterfall feature, and a distinct tropical atmosphere. Sapphire Falls is Signature Collection tier but does not include Unlimited Express Pass — that perk is exclusive to Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, and Royal Pacific. Think of it as a step up in resort experience from Prime Value, without the Express benefit. Great for families who want nicer surroundings but don't need Express Pass.
Best for: Families wanting a resort feel and EPA at a mid-range price, not relying on Express Pass
Newest · Located Inside Epic Universe Campus
The only hotel physically located inside Epic Universe — steps from the park entrance. As a Loews-managed Signature Collection property, Helios Grand qualifies for Unlimited Express Pass at USF and IOA, plus Early Park Admission at all Universal parks including Epic Universe. If Epic Universe is the centerpiece of your trip, this is the ultimate convenience play.
Best for: Epic Universe–focused trips, families who want the closest possible access to the new park
Modern High-Rise · Rooftop Bar · Great Views
A sleek, modern high-rise hotel with contemporary design and a rooftop bar with views of the resort. Aventura is geared toward a slightly older demographic — teens, adults, and couples who want a stylish, modern stay at a mid-range price without the full-blown resort theming. Solid option for those prioritizing location and clean, modern rooms over elaborate pool complexes.
Best for: Couples, adults, teens who prefer modern design over heavy theming
Celestial-Inspired · Modern · Close to Epic Universe
One of Universal's newest hotels, featuring a modern celestial-inspired aesthetic at a mid-range price point. Clean, contemporary rooms and great proximity to Epic Universe. Stella Nova is purpose-built for the new era of Universal Orlando — ideal for families whose trip centers on Epic Universe and who want a modern, well-designed hotel without Signature prices.
Best for: Epic Universe–focused families wanting modern design at a mid-range price
Nature-Inspired · Modern · Pairs with Stella Nova
Terra Luna Resort is the nature-themed companion property to Stella Nova — same Prime Value tier, same great proximity to Epic Universe, with an earthy, nature-inspired design aesthetic. If Stella Nova's celestial theming doesn't appeal, Terra Luna offers a different visual vibe at the same price point and perk level.
Best for: Families who prefer nature-inspired theming, great proximity to Epic Universe
Retro 1950s Beach Resort · Best Pool Complex at Universal
Cabana Bay is arguably the most fun hotel at Universal Orlando regardless of budget. The retro 1950s beach resort aesthetic is genuinely charming, the pool complex is spectacular (two pools, a lazy river), and the price point is dramatically lower than the Signature hotels. Families consistently rank it among their favorite Universal hotel experiences — not despite the lower price, but because the vibe is just that fun.
Best for: Families wanting a great pool complex and fun atmosphere at a lower price
Beach-Themed · Lowest Price Point · Suites Available
Dockside Inn & Suites is one of Universal's most affordable on-site options, with a beach/surf aesthetic and a strong suite lineup that makes it popular with larger families. You get the critical perk — Early Park Admission — at the lowest price tier Universal offers. The tradeoff is a simpler resort experience with fewer on-property amenities than the higher tiers.
Best for: Budget-conscious families, large groups needing suite configurations
Beach-Themed · Lowest Price Point · Surf Vibe
The companion property to Dockside, Surfside Inn & Suites shares the same surf/beach aesthetic and Value-tier price point. Both Endless Summer properties deliver on the most important perk (Early Park Admission) while keeping nightly rates as low as they go among Universal on-site hotels. A smart choice for families whose priority is in-park spending rather than the hotel experience.
Best for: Budget-focused families, those prioritizing park budget over resort amenities
Epic Universe is on a separate campus from Universal's original parks. If Epic Universe is the primary reason for your trip, proximity matters. Stella Nova Resort, Terra Luna Resort, and Universal Helios Grand Hotel are all positioned closest to Epic Universe — with Helios literally located inside the Epic Universe campus.
The classic Signature hotels (Portofino, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific) are closer to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. For trips equally split between the original parks and Epic Universe, any on-site hotel works well — Universal provides transportation between all properties and parks.

All 11 hotels include Early Park Admission. Unlimited Express Pass (USF/IOA only) is included only at Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, and Royal Pacific Resort. Sapphire Falls and Helios Grand are Signature Collection but do NOT include Unlimited Express. No hotel includes Epic Universe Express Pass — that is always a separate purchase.
Off-site hotels near Universal Orlando are almost always cheaper per night. Here's what you give up — and whether that trade makes sense for your trip.
Mark's take: For 3+ day Universal trips, especially in 2026 with Epic Universe demand being what it is, I almost always recommend staying on-site. The Early Park Admission alone is worth it — and at Cabana Bay or the Value hotels, the nightly rate difference from off-site is often smaller than people expect.
